Women who participated in the study are depicted in the schematic. From the 18,506 women who took part in the 2016 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey, the final sample for this study was reached after using a number of stages or exclusion criteria. In the first stage, 8206 women who were not using any method to prevent pregnancy were excluded. Pregnant women were excluded based on the other criteria. Women, who claimed to have used any strategy to avoid becoming pregnant in the five years before to the survey, were included after a thorough screening. The final sample size of 9235 was selected
