Contraception and Reproductive Medicine

Aims and scope

Contraception and Reproductive Medicine is an online, open-access, peer reviewed journal that is designed to promote the advancement of contraceptive technology and general reproductive medicine particularly in the areas of education, effectiveness, safety, research interest, improved or new technologies, non-contraceptive benefits, and long-term health. The journal publishes articles on all areas of female and male contraceptive technology and reproductive health, clinical and basic trials, meta-analyses, reviews, international submissions, and case reports.

Topical areas include, but are not restricted to:

  • Safety and efficacy of contraceptives
  • Long-acting reversible contraception
  • New technologies in contraception
  • Family planning
  • Fertility research
 

All manuscripts submitted to Contraception and Reproductive Medicine should adhere to BioMed Central's editorial policies.

Join our Editorial Board!

Contraception and Reproductive Medicine is recruiting Associate Editors. As the growth of the journal continues, we must also ensure that it is able to cope with increased submissions whilst maintaining our high editorial standards. Therefore, we are looking to expand our editorial team.

We encourage applications from researchers with a background in a range of subject areas, including contraception and family planning.

Call for Papers: Contraceptive Decision-Making: Enhancing Family Planning Education and Accessibility

Family planning employs decision-making as a major component of reproductive health services. Decision-making largely depends on awareness of the benefits of various family planning methods, their accessibility and affordability, and their pros and cons. This collection encourages submissions that discuss sexual health education, determinants of contraceptive use, access to contraceptive use in resource-poor countries and the role of men in family planning decisions.

Call for Papers: Comprehensive Sexuality Education

This is a cross-journal collection. Contraception and Reproductive Medicine is interested in articles exploring the landscape of male and female contraceptives, plus how education of these technologies can be improved.

Cross-journal collection: Enhancing access to and uptake of contraception in low-and middle-income countries

New Content ItemContraception and Reproductive Medicine, Reproductive Health, Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition, and International Journal for Equity in Health present this cross-journal collection focusing on contraception in low and middle-income countries to celebrate World Contraception Day. This collection aims to curate multidisciplinary papers focusing on LMICs that explore and promote improving access to contraception, particularly amongst adolescents with a particular focus on health policy and systems that can promote contraception uptake.

Donna Shoupe

Dr. Donna Shoupe, Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Donna Shoupe is a graduate of Massachusetts institute of Technology and the Ohio State School of Medicine. Her interest in contraceptive technology began while studying biology at MIT and it continued to grow throughout medical school and during her residency at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles.She was appointed as an Assistant Professor following her REI fellowship and was advanced to Professor in 2004. She has published 80 peer-review papers and has edited 7 books including 4 on contraception.
